AI Use Policy

How Vegas Report limits current generative AI use to images and illustrations while keeping human editorial responsibility.

Vegas Report's current use of generative artificial intelligence is limited to image generation and AI-assisted visual illustration.

This policy distinguishes visual use of AI from the reporting, sourcing and editorial verification of written content. The use of an AI-generated visual does not make AI a source for the factual claims in the accompanying article.

What AI Is Used For

AI may be used to create or materially modify:

  • Illustrative images
  • Conceptual artwork
  • Non-documentary feature visuals

These uses are visual and illustrative. They are not intended to replace documentary evidence or establish that a depicted event, place or condition was directly observed.

What AI Is Not Currently Used For

  • Article drafting
  • Editorial translation
  • Source summarization
  • Source monitoring
  • Automated reporting
  • Automated publication

These activities remain outside the current declared AI workflow. This distinction is important because the use of AI imagery should not be interpreted as evidence that written reporting has been generated or verified by AI.

Documentary Accuracy

An AI-generated image must not be presented as documentary evidence of a real event, action or condition that it does not actually depict.

AI visuals must not fabricate evidence of crimes, accidents, emergencies, property conditions or actions by real people.

The visual context should support the article without creating a false factual impression that would contradict or overstate the underlying reporting.

Real People and Events

AI-generated imagery should not falsely depict a real person as participating in an event, making a statement or taking an action that did not occur.

The same caution applies when a visual could cause a reader to believe that a real place, business or event was photographed in a condition that has not been documented.

Labeling and Context

Where an AI-generated or materially AI-modified visual could otherwise be mistaken for documentary photography, Vegas Report may identify it as AI-generated, AI-assisted or illustrative.

The purpose of such context is to prevent an illustrative image from acquiring a factual meaning that it does not have.

Editorial Responsibility

AI is not an authoritative source. Human editors remain responsible for deciding whether a visual is appropriate, accurate in context and suitable for publication.

AI must not be used to fabricate sources, quotations, names, events, credentials, documents or people. The factual basis of an article remains subject to Vegas Report's ordinary editorial and fact-checking standards.

Changes to AI Use

If Vegas Report materially changes its use of generative AI, this policy and other relevant editorial policies should be updated to match the actual workflow. The policy should describe current practice rather than anticipated or hypothetical uses.
