Ethics Policy
Editorial ethics for independence, accuracy, fairness, sourcing, conflicts, commercial separation, rankings and sensitive topics.
Vegas Report is committed to publishing editorial content about Las Vegas and Southern Nevada with accuracy, fairness, independence and transparency.
These principles are intended to guide how the publication handles evidence, competing interests, commercial relationships, sensitive subjects and accountability to readers.
Editorial Independence
Editorial decisions are made independently from advertisers and other commercial interests. Editorial staff should not promise favorable coverage in exchange for payment, advertising, access or benefits.
Independence also means that commercial pressure should not determine whether accurate criticism remains published or whether a legitimate correction is made.
Accuracy and Context
Material factual claims should be checked against appropriate sources. Headlines should reflect the underlying story, and uncertainty should be stated when information is incomplete.
Accuracy includes context. A statement can be technically correct yet still create a misleading impression if important qualifications, time periods or source limitations are omitted.
Fairness
Sources should not be misrepresented or quoted in ways that materially change their meaning. Serious disputed claims may warrant an opportunity for relevant parties to respond.
Fairness does not require treating unsupported claims as equivalent to well-documented evidence. Different perspectives should be understood in light of their relevance and evidentiary support.
Avoiding unnecessary harm is also part of fair treatment. Personal details should not be emphasized merely because they make a story more sensational.
Conflicts of Interest
Authors and editors should disclose material financial, commercial, professional or personal conflicts where relevant.
Gifts, complimentary access, tickets, travel, meals, samples or other benefits must not determine editorial conclusions.
A relevant relationship may require disclosure when knowledge of that relationship would materially help a reader understand how an article, review or assessment was produced.
Sourcing
Named sources and primary evidence are preferred. Anonymous sources are used rarely and under the conditions described in the Unnamed Sources Policy.
Source quality should be considered in relation to the claim. Promotional statements, direct evidence, public records and expert interpretation do not necessarily carry the same evidentiary weight.
Advertising and Sponsored Content
Vegas Report currently uses display/programmatic advertising, including Google AdSense. Advertising is separate from independent editorial work.
Vegas Report does not currently publish sponsored articles or branded/native content. Advertising therefore should not be presented as if it were an ordinary independent Vegas Report article.
Reviews and Rankings
Rankings should follow criteria appropriate to the question being answered. Paid visibility does not determine editorial ranking position.
Reviews may contain editorial judgment, but commercial relationships should not be allowed to convert that judgment into a purchased conclusion.
Sensitive Topics
Content involving health, legal, financial, tax, investment, mental health, safety or major life decisions requires additional caution and should not be treated as personalized professional advice.
Vegas Report avoids unsupported guaranteed outcomes, fabricated diagnoses, unsupported legal or financial conclusions and manipulative fear-based claims. The degree of certainty in the writing should reflect what the available sources actually establish.
Images and AI
Images must not materially mislead readers. AI is currently used only for generated or AI-assisted imagery, not for drafting, translation, summarization or source monitoring.
AI-generated visuals must not fabricate documentary evidence or cause an illustration to be mistaken for proof that a real event occurred as depicted.
Corrections and Accountability
Verified factual errors should be corrected. Send concerns to corrections@vegas-report.com.
Accountability also means considering credible concerns about attribution, context and sourcing without treating every disagreement as proof that the original editorial judgment was wrong.
