The new comedy ‘Bloated in Vegas’ will debut at Greenside at Riddles Court during Edinburgh Fringe from August 24–29, exploring fame and integrity through the story of Elvis Presley’s fictional tailor.
‘Bloated in Vegas,’ a new comedy exploring the pressures of fame through the eyes of a fictional tailor for Elvis Presley, will make its world premiere at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival from August 24 to 29. The production will be staged at Greenside at Riddles Court’s Pickle Studio, with a preview performance on August 24 and regular shows running daily at 16:05 for 55 minutes.
The play, co-written by director Michael Schiralli and performer Jason Cohen, imagines a prodigy tailor from New York’s Lower East Side who is unexpectedly chosen to design Elvis’s iconic jumpsuits. As the story unfolds, the tailor must navigate the dazzling but challenging world of Las Vegas, questioning whether he and his creations can withstand the temptations and excesses that come with celebrity.
Comedy with Heart and Local Ties
While ‘Bloated in Vegas’ delivers sharp humor and theatrical flair, it also delves into deeper themes of personal integrity and the cost of ambition. According to Schiralli, the inspiration came from watching a documentary about Elvis Presley and reflecting on the pressures the star faced late in his career. The creative team wanted to examine the question: “Is too much of a good thing ever enough? And what are you willing to lose to get more?”
Schiralli and Cohen have collaborated for over a decade, previously co-creating the touring concert ‘Great Balls of Fire,’ which has played venues across the U.S. and features Cohen in the starring role. Their partnership is built on a shared sense of comedic timing and a commitment to storytelling with emotional depth.
Why Edinburgh Fringe for the Premiere
The decision to debut ‘Bloated in Vegas’ at Edinburgh Fringe was driven by the festival’s reputation for embracing unconventional and heartfelt comedy. “We wanted an audience who wasn’t risk averse, who would be interested in off-beat comedy with heart,” Schiralli explained. The creative team believes the festival’s environment is ideal for launching a show that blends humor with a thoughtful look at friendship and self-promise.
For Las Vegas entertainment fans, the show’s premise offers a fresh take on the city’s legendary connection to Elvis Presley and the spectacle of his stage persona. The production’s focus on the behind-the-scenes world of show business adds a new layer to the ongoing fascination with Las Vegas’s entertainment legacy. The city’s ongoing draw for major music acts is also reflected in recent announcements, such as the Jonas Brothers adding a date at MGM Grand Garden Arena this November, as covered in our report on upcoming Las Vegas concerts.
