Formed in 1985, Grasshopper consists of childhood friends Edmond So, Calvin Choy, and Remus Choy. The group first gained attention after entering Hong Kong’s New Talent Singing Awards, where a backstage power outage led to a pivotal meeting with Cantopop superstar Anita Mui. Mui was impressed by the trio and invited them to join her as backup dancers and singers, a formative experience that helped shape their musical style and stage presence.

After their early years performing with Anita Mui, Grasshopper signed with PolyGram Records and released their debut album in February 1988. Their blend of high-energy choreography and catchy, upbeat pop songs quickly set them apart in a music scene dominated by ballads.
