Fans hoping to catch Lionel Richie on tour outside Nevada will have to wait. But his Encore Theater residency at Wynn Las Vegas is still on. Richie’s team confirmed this week that he is taking a break from touring after a heart procedure. Even so, his Las Vegas shows are still on the calendar.
Richie, 77, recently had a standard procedure for atrial fibrillation, a common heart rhythm problem. His representatives said the operation went well. His doctor told them everything was fine. Richie is recovering and will rest before returning to the stage. According to ABC News, the treatment was routine and did not require a long hospital stay. Richie is expected to be back performing after a short break. His next Encore Theater shows are set for October 14, 16, and 17, and then November 11, 13, and 14.
Encore Theater shows stay on schedule
Richie’s tour dates with Earth, Wind & Fire in San Francisco (September 26), Chicago (September 30), and Columbus, Ohio (October 2) have been canceled. But the Las Vegas residency is still set to go ahead. USA Today reported that these three tour stops were officially dropped after the procedure. The Encore Theater at Wynn Las Vegas has not announced any changes to Richie’s fall shows. Tickets are still available for all six dates.
Richie’s health scare is not unusual for Las Vegas headliners. In December 2022, Barry Manilow missed the opening night of his Christmas show at Westgate Las Vegas after an episode of atrial fibrillation. He returned the next night. Manilow’s quick comeback showed how Vegas residencies can adjust when artists face sudden health issues, as reported earlier by Vegas Report.

This is not the first time Richie has paused his tour. AP and NBC News reported that he was hospitalized and had a cardiac evaluation after his August 30 show at The Muny in St. Louis. That led to several canceled shows. Early reports blamed dehydration, but later coverage said he needed more heart tests. Back in June, Richie stopped a show at Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota. He told the crowd he felt dizzy and needed to sit down while singing "Dancing on the Ceiling."
Even with these health issues, Richie’s Las Vegas residency has not changed. The Encore Theater dates are still his next live shows. Neither Wynn Las Vegas nor Richie’s team has said anything about postponing or canceling them. Fans with tickets for the Las Vegas shows can expect the residency to go ahead unless there are new updates.
