Rankings and Reviews Methodology

Rankings Methodology

How Vegas Report structures editorial reviews, rankings and comparisons using relevant criteria, source material and commercial separation.

Vegas Report publishes reviews, rankings and structured comparisons when they help readers evaluate Las Vegas hotels, restaurants, attractions, entertainment, neighborhoods, transportation or other visitor-economy choices.

The purpose of these formats is to organize meaningful differences between options in a way that answers a practical reader question. A ranking is therefore tied to its stated subject and criteria rather than presented as a universal judgment that applies equally to every reader.

What We May Compare

  • Hotels and resorts
  • Restaurants and dining
  • Bars and nightlife
  • Shows and entertainment
  • Attractions and things to do
  • Casinos and resort properties
  • Neighborhoods and areas to stay
  • Transportation and parking
  • Airport logistics
  • Family activities
  • Visitor costs and fees
  • Event and venue logistics

The relevance of a particular comparison depends on the question being answered. Not every category requires the same inputs or produces the same type of editorial conclusion.

Source Material

Relevant sources may include:

  • Official hotel, restaurant, venue and company information
  • Published prices, fees, amenities and policies
  • Government and public-agency data
  • Transportation and airport information
  • Public records and regulatory filings
  • Tourism statistics
  • Direct observations and editorial research
  • Historical records
  • Expert commentary where appropriate
  • Reputable industry sources used as secondary confirmation

Source choice depends on what is being compared. Objective details such as published fees or operating policies may rely on official information, while broader context may require additional editorial research or secondary confirmation.

Criteria

Criteria depend on the question being answered. They may include relevance, location, price, true value, fee transparency, amenities, access, transportation, walking logistics, operating policies, user experience, track record, data quality and freshness.

A criterion should matter because it helps answer the particular comparison, not simply because it is easy to measure. Different ranking subjects may place different emphasis on the same factor.

Not Every Ranking Uses a Score

Some comparisons may use numerical data. Others use editorial ordering based on disclosed criteria.

Vegas Report does not create artificial numerical precision where the underlying judgment does not support it. A qualitative difference should not be converted into a seemingly exact score merely to make a ranking appear more scientific.

Reviews and Editorial Judgment

Reviews should distinguish objective facts from editorial assessments. Price or resort fees may be directly verifiable; concepts such as atmosphere or overall value may involve editorial judgment.

Readers should be able to understand when a statement describes a measurable characteristic and when it represents an editorial interpretation of the available information.

Commercial Independence

Paid visibility does not determine editorial ranking position.

Vegas Report does not currently sell ranking positions, positive review scores, favorable reviews or guaranteed recommendations.

Display advertising may appear around ranking pages without affecting editorial order or conclusions. The presence of an advertisement should therefore be interpreted separately from the methodology used to evaluate the ranked options.

Affiliate Relationships

Vegas Report does not currently use affiliate links. Rankings and reviews are therefore not currently described as being ordered according to affiliate commission opportunities.

Updates

Rankings and reviews may be updated when prices, fees, operating policies, availability, business status or other material factors change.

An update may alter the practical basis of a comparison when the underlying facts have changed, but it should not be used simply to create the appearance of freshness without meaningful review.
