The Plaza Hotel & Casino has launched a 2,000-square-foot high-limit slot room with 53 machines, concierge services, and cashless gaming, aiming to attract privacy-seeking players in downtown Las Vegas.
The Plaza Hotel & Casino in downtown Las Vegas has opened a new high-limit slot room, expanding its gaming offerings for guests seeking a more private and personalized experience. The 2,000-square-foot space, located on the main casino floor, features 53 slot machines, dedicated guest services, and a range of amenities designed to appeal to higher-end players.
According to Plaza CEO Jonathan Jossel, the decision to invest in a high-limit room reflects changes in the downtown customer base over the past several years. Jossel noted that while demand for higher-denomination games has grown, the primary driver was a desire for enhanced service and privacy among guests who might otherwise visit the Strip.
Inside the New High-Limit Room
The new room offers a concierge desk where eligible players can check into their hotel rooms and receive assistance with restaurant reservations, room upgrades, and pool cabanas. Additional amenities include a dedicated ATM and ticket-redemption machine, a complimentary nonalcoholic beverage station, lounge seating, and 24/7 cocktail service. The design incorporates elements from other areas of the Plaza, such as carpet from Oscar’s Steakhouse and chandeliers inspired by fixtures elsewhere in the property.
Slot machines in the high-limit room are equipped with Acres cashless gaming technology, allowing players to access funds via mobile devices and use electronic payment options like Apple Pay. The machines also support unattended jackpot processing, reducing wait times for payouts—a feature that Jossel said is especially important for players making large wagers, as jackpots requiring additional processing can occur frequently.
Privacy and Service for Downtown Gamblers
Jossel emphasized that the new room is designed to provide privacy without isolating high-limit players from the energy of the main casino. The space had been walled off and underused since the pandemic, but its reopening creates new sightlines across the casino while offering a discreet area for guests who prefer to “hide away.” The lounge area allows players and their companions to relax, socialize, and watch sports without leaving the high-limit section. The room can also be converted for private events with food and beverage service.
The Plaza is marking the grand opening with special promotions, including a $10,000 slot tournament hosted by social media influencer Travel Ruby on August 28-29. Players who earn at least 1,000 slot points in the high-limit room will be eligible for a chance to win a Virgin cruise for two.
Downtown Competition and Ongoing Investment
The Plaza’s investment comes as downtown Las Vegas casinos continue to compete with Strip properties while maintaining a reputation for lower prices and a more relaxed atmosphere. The high-limit room is the latest in a series of upgrades at the Plaza, which has recently added the outdoor Carousel Bar, Pinkbox Doughnuts, a smoke-free gaming area, and other amenities. Five Guys is also set to open on the south end of the property, with additional food and beverage concepts planned.
Jossel described the property’s approach as one of continuous improvement rather than frequent changes in direction. He said that some concepts require time to develop and that the new high-limit room is part of a broader strategy of reinvestment in the property.
Downtown Las Vegas has seen a wave of new gaming and hospitality offerings in recent years, with operators seeking to attract both locals and visitors who might otherwise focus on the Strip. For example, other properties have expanded their gaming options, as seen when Boomer’s Sportsbook expanded to Four Queens and Binion’s, reflecting the ongoing evolution of the downtown gaming landscape.
